Generations of Portuguese baking, right on Ferry Street.
Founder Manuel Teixeira came from a family that had run bakeries in Portugal for over 150 years. He first opened the shop in Harrison in 1976 and moved it to Newark's Ironbound district in the early 1980s, bringing authentic Portuguese baking to Ferry Street.
Today, Teixeira's remains the heart of the neighborhood — where neighbors drink coffee and read the paper, where families fill large boxes with fresh pastries, and where every loaf and custard tart still leaves the oven the same way it has for decades: by hand, with care, and with recipes carried straight from Portugal.
